Snap Appliances

Traditional removable orthodontic appliances, with anchors can be used efficiently during orthodontic treatment. The have some disadvantages, such as fracture of the anchor wires.

Other disadvantages of these removable appliances are:

Retention of these appliances during the shedding of teeth can be a problem. Snap appliances were introduced the some years ago, to overcome several disadvantages of the "traditional" removable appliances. Snap appliances do not need anchors of metal, but are vacuum formed on the plaster model. Retention of these appliances can be found, using the convex form of the buccal and palatinal parts of the dention.

The appliance "Snaps" over the dentition, which will give these appliances sufficient retention, during treatment. For the fabrication of the appliance an impression of the dentition is needed. In the laboratory according to the instructions of the orthodontic professional, the appliance is made.
