One of the most important aids in orthodontic treatment is the plaster model of the teeth. It is difficult, and sometimes even impossible, to determine the position of dental elements in the mouth. This applies to the glossal part of the occlusion, in particular.

The relationship between the upper and lower jaw, both in sagittal, transversal and vertical directions can be determined much more simply and accurately on the basis of a well-made plaster cast model than in the patients mouth. The plaster cast model is an essential aid in diagnostics. Working models are also necessary for the manufacture of orthodontic devices.
